About the park
Know the
landscape.
Mabira Forest is a lowland tropical forest reserve along the Kampala–Jinja corridor, making it one of Uganda’s easiest forest escapes. Its trails lead beneath mature trees, lianas, streams and dense understorey.
Wildlife
Look for red-tailed, black-and-white colobus, blue and vervet monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, Great Blue Turacos, hornbills, kingfishers, sunbirds, butterflies, reptiles and smaller forest species. It is not a Big Five park.
Things to do
Take a guided forest walk, birding excursion or primate walk; hike to Griffin Falls; cycle or mountain-bike through forest and plantations; camp; or experience the canopy zip lines where available.
Planning notes
Use a trained forest guide and allow more time for early-morning birding. Trails become muddy in rain, so bring closed walking shoes, long trousers, insect repellent, rain protection, binoculars and waterproof protection for electronics.
