About the park
Know the
landscape.
Queen Elizabeth National Park lies between Lakes Edward and George and combines Kasenyi savannah, wetlands, crater lakes, Kyambura Gorge, Maramagambo Forest and the Kazinga Channel. Mweya is the main tourism hub, while Ishasha in the south creates a natural route toward Bwindi.
Wildlife
Expect elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kob, topi, waterbuck, warthogs, hippos and crocodiles. Lions and leopards occur in the savannah, while Ishasha is famous for tree-climbing lions, although sightings are never guaranteed. Kyambura and Maramagambo add chimpanzees, baboons, colobus and red-tailed monkeys.
Things to do
Take morning and afternoon game drives in Kasenyi and Ishasha, cruise the Kazinga Channel for hippos, elephants, crocodiles and waterbirds, track chimpanzees in Kyambura Gorge, visit Lake Katwe salt works and crater lakes, birdwatch and arrange community experiences.
Planning notes
Early morning and late afternoon are best for game viewing. Choose accommodation near the sector you want to explore, especially if including Ishasha or Kyambura. Carry sun and rain protection, binoculars and sturdy shoes for forest activities.
