About the park
Know the
landscape.
Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary lies about 23 kilometres southeast of Entebbe on Lake Victoria. Its forested island provides lifelong care for rescued and orphaned chimpanzees that cannot safely return to the wild, making this a conservation and education experience rather than wild chimpanzee trekking.
Wildlife
The rescued chimpanzees are the focus. Around the island and boat route, visitors may also see monitor lizards, African fish eagles, kingfishers, herons, egrets, cormorants and other lake and forest birds.
Things to do
Travel by boat from Entebbe, attend the sanctuary briefing and designated chimpanzee viewing or feeding session, learn about veterinary care and welfare, watch birdlife, photograph Lake Victoria and stay overnight at Ngamba Ecolodge for sunset and a quieter island experience.
Planning notes
Choose a half-day, full-day or overnight visit and confirm boat schedules in advance. Follow hygiene, distance and photography rules; do not touch, feed or call to the chimpanzees outside approved programmes. Bring sun and rain protection, a light jacket, water and a small daypack.
